LBJ and Caddo National Grasslands

The DFW area has so many people that sometimes we forget that there are nearby places where we can get away. It is great to escape the crowd and the traffic and experience the outdoors. Lyndon B. Johnson has some great fishing in Black Creek Lake and other small ponds and is a great place to go for a hike or a picnic.

Lyndon B. Johnson Grassland is located north of the town of Decatur on highway 287. It is a huge tract of grassland and forest that is just about an hour away from Fort Worth. There are several campsites at the grasslands.

Caddo grasslands aren’t too far out of McKinney/ Collin County. You just have to keep heading way up on 121.

I have found copperhead snakes to be extremely common in the grasslands so be careful where you step and place your hands, especially after dark, as the snakes are primarily nocturnal. You might want to bring a snake hook just to be safe.

The next time that you are just looking to get away consider checking out LBJ.
